01/01/2006 - This
panorama was taken as a storm was moving out of the Baylands and a
new storm was moving in. The Baylands remained serene. |

January 18, 2006 -
I've called this picture Sucker Hole. This a term used by
VFR-rated small aircraft pilots to describe an apparent clearing that allows
you to get on top of the clouds, then the hole disappears and you
are left stranded on top of clouds |

February 14, 2006 -
There is a small aircraft in this picture coming in for a landing.
It gives a bit of perspective to the sweep of this scene. |
 |
February 19, 2006 -
There is a small bird house at the edge of the Palo Alto California
Bayland's wildlife refuge. It is oddly out of place mixed in
with all of the wildlife.
Perhaps it caters to the not-so-wild birds. |

February 21, 2006
- This sunset was taken several days after the one above from a
slightly different location in the Palo Alto Baylands.
We were have a series of winter storms with the accompanying clouds
making for spectacular evening skies. |

- This snail was hanging onto last year's dead Anise stem which was
being whipped around by the wind. I had my telephoto lens on
the camera and had it extended to its full 200mm (400mm equivalent.)
When the snail swung into focus I snapped this shot. Once I
had it on the computer, I noticed what looks to be ancient
hieroglyphics etched into its shell. |

- This male Cliff Swallow is keeping claim-jumpers out of his
newly-constructed nest by sitting in the opening. Note that
his beak is still coated with mud from his nest building. |

June 10, 2006
- This single Lodgepole pine, killed in the 1988 Yellowstone fire,
now stands guard over the new growth of pines. |
 |
June 10, 2006
- This sunlit meadow, near the Continental Divide in Yellowstone
National Park, had deer and
bison browsing on it. The mountains in the distance are the rim of
the caldera of an ancient volcano that is now Yellowstone National Park. |
 |
June 11, 2006 - These
Lodgepole pines are a mature stand that was spared during the 1988 fire. |
 |
July 11, 2006 - This
hillside, with its fences, is covered with the mid-summer wild oats
of the Northern California countryside. |
 |
September 7, 2006 -
California Fall
along California Route 198 between Interstate 5 and Highway 101. |
 |
September 7, 2006 -
The well-worn door latch at Mission San Antonio de Padua caught my attention.
The many hands have given the latch its patina. |
 |
September 7, 2006 -
The Big Sur Coast Gallery
is constructed using recycled redwood water
barrels and is an art form in itself. This picture was taken in the
inner courtyard which has live
vegetation, included the redwood tree and jade plant shown here.
The whimsy of the neatly arranged rocks caught my eye. |
 |
September 7, 2006 -
This Mission San Antonio de Padua window made an almost perfect
mirror reflecting the mission's farm implements in the front courtyard. |
 |
September 10, 2006 - A
shaft of light broke through the forest canopy and briefly lit this
fern on the forest floor. |
 |
September 10, 2006 -
The yellow leaf was caught in a patch of olive drab shrubbery beside
the path. Clearly out of place and looking for attention. |
 |
September 15, 2006 - A
tree stands atop a Northern California hill while the afternoon Bay Area fog rolls in behind it. |
 |
September 19, 2006 -
This patch of Naked Ladies is growing on a slope headed towards the
Pacific Ocean in Big Sur California. |
 |
September 20, 2006 - There is a
two mile road that connects Pheiffer Big Sur beach to Coastal
Highway 1. It is a twisty, one-lane road that serves both the
local residents and the tourists. |
 |
October 28, 2006 - A group of
large tanks at an industrial site were in the process of being
demolished. There were some interesting shapes and shadows on
the remaining tanks lit by the setting sun. |
 |
November 2, 2006 - This shot was
taken late in the evening as the moon was rising over the San
Francisco Bay in Silicon
Valley California. |
 |
November 17, 2006 - This picture
was taken early in the morning at California's Henry Coe State Park before the sun had burned off the valley fog. |
 |
December 7, 2006 - These two

old, rotted-out, duck-shooting blind. |
